Wow, this was an exciting end to my week. We went on a ferry ride between the two islands of New Zealand. A ferry is a large boat that can often carry people and cars and lorries. There are many ways you can travel around but you need a boat if you want to cross the water. I thought it might only be a little journey of perhaps 10 minutes but it wasn't. It took nearly four hours. You can work out how many minutes that is. When we were on board the ferry, there was a lot to do. Ev showed my a map of where we were going and I thought it was a bit funny. We were sailing between the south island, where we had been, and the North Island but we actually ended up going south. Look at a map and see for yourselves. We left a place called Picton and arrived in Wellington. Wellington is the capital city of New Zealand.

The ferry had windows to look out but it was dark when we sailed and I couldn't really see anything apart from a piece of deck outside. The deck is what you call the floors of a boat. Some people find travelling on a ferry makes them feel sick. In the waves the boat can go up and down, especially if it is a bit rough. They give you paper bags to be sick into. I wasn't because I had too much to do and see. There were games to play and places to get food and drinks. But most of the time I just sat down and thought about what I could tell you. Then I fell asleep standing up in my own little porthole. A porthole is a round window on a ship.
